Waterford's Jamie Beamish to star in RTÉ Toy Show: The Musical

The main adult lead castings for RTÉ Toy Show: The Musical were announced today with Waterford's Jamie Beamish set to star.

The brand-new musical opens on December 10th at The Convention Centre, Dublin and will feature some of Ireland’s most well-known stage and screen actors in the lead adult roles.

Jamie (Bridgerton, Derry Girls, Otto Bathurst's Halo, Billy The Kid) will play the role of Dad, aka Brendan Mooney, the father of the lead character of the musical Nell.

Clare Barrett (Fair City, Medicine, Wild Mountain Thyme, Trad) has been cast to play Nell's Mam, Áine Mooney, while the role of Nana will be played by Anna Healy (The Spin, The Last Return, Mother’s Day and Emmerdale).

This is the first in a forthcoming series of casting announcements for this exciting production which will bring the magic of The Late Late Toy Show live to the theatre stage for the very first time. The brand-new Irish musical promises to sweep audiences along on one little girl's adventure as everyone in her town prepares for Toy Show on the biggest night of the year.

Speaking today about the casting announcement, the Director of Toy Show The Musical, Séimí Campbell, said: ” Toy Show the Musical celebrates one of our nation’s most loved traditions and in that, recognises the importance of play, the transformative power of the imagination, and the strength, bravery, and resilience of children. We have this wonderful opportunity to take many families into the theatre for the first time, and with that comes a responsibility to show them the unequivocal power of theatre - of sitting in a room together with strangers but leaving with some form of shared experience. That connectivity is exactly what Toy Show encapsulates.”

Jamie Beamish spoke with WLR's Geoff Harris earlier today on his role and his excitement to get back on stage.

Toy Show The Musical will run from December 10th, 2022, in The Auditorium, The Convention Centre, Dublin. Tickets are priced from €25. For further information and to purchase tickets, go to www.rte.ie/toyshowthemusical
