Tramore's Grand Hotel owner aims to create boutique hotel

A boutique destination hotel is what the new owner of Tramore's Grand Hotel is aiming to create.

James Frisby of Frisby Homes has informed WLR News that his aim is to offer a 100-bed hotel with a small spa, and a restaurant and bar area.

Frisby Homes are currently working on two Waterford projects - Deerpark and Knightswood.

WLR reported last week that the hotel had been sold to Mr Frisby - just over a month after it had been purchased by a Dublin consortium of businessmen.

Mr Frisby expects plans to be lodged with the council's planning office within two months.

He says the hotel will rely on the views offered of Tramore beach but adds that the building needs considerable work.

It has been empty since 2014, but architects had been working on the building last week.

A derelict site notice was issued in 2018, after the council had been unable to get in touch with the owner.

The original hotel on that site was constructed in the late 18th century and the building has been described as a "monumental building" and an "anchor site" in Tramore.
