Cllr. John Cummins - Fine Gael
Educated at St. Stephens NS, De La Salle College & UL where he attained a 1st class honours degree in PE & Geography teaching. John has taught in Dungarvan, Kilmacthomas, Ferrybank and for the past 6 years at St. Paul’s Community College in Waterford City.
A young, experienced and dynamic voice for Waterford, John was first elected to Waterford City Council at the age of 21 and was re-elected in 2014 and 2019. John has served as Mayor on two previous occasions (2013/2014 and 2015/2016).
John held the position of Chairman of the South East Regional Authority (2012/2013), along with several voluntary board positions:
- Waterford Airport
- Theatre Royal,
- Waterford Sports Partnership,
- Splashworld
- Manor St. John Youth Services.
John is a member of Faithlegg Golf Club and has been involved with many clubs and groups throughout Waterford including Hibernian FC, Villa FC, De La Salle GAA Club and the Waterford U-21 footballers.
John is married to Inga and they enjoy living in the heart of Waterford city.
Key Campaign Issues for John
- Education – Making WIT a University for the South East
- Healthcare – 2nd Cath lab to allow 24/7 cardiac care. Further investment in community & acute hospital settings.
- Investment in Strategic Infrastructure – Delivery of the North Quays along with the expansion of Waterford Airport.
- Improved Public Transport – both urban and rural (reducing rural isolation).
- Housing – Increasing social, affordable and private homes.
- Job Creation – via Enterprise Ireland, SME’s, IDA & Farming.
- Agriculture – Support & protect the sector as we move towards a greener economy.
Message from John
Waterford needs a strong person and a new voice in Dail Eireann to represent Waterford, a person that can get things done and deliver.
I have the experience and motivation to represent the people of Waterford at a national level and I will always put them first in my representations.
I have great passion, energy, enthusiasm, dedication and a commitment to hard work and that will never change.
My main objective is to work with the other 3 TD’s elected by the people of Waterford, to deliver for the people of Waterford; politics and policies aside that is my promise!
