Gilbert O'Sullivan confirms plans for several Waterford concerts

Waterford music legend Gilbert O'Sullivan has confirmed plans to play a concert in Waterford this year. Best known for Alone Again, the Waterford Native was awarded the freedom of Waterford in March of this year.

Speaking on RTE's Today Show, Gilbert spoke of his childhood in Waterford.

"My father worked in Clover Meats and I think he was either laid off or decided to leave, which was a shame as my mother had a shop so she was doing okay.  the move took place so that was it.

"There's not many memories at a very young age, but my roots go back to the Cork Road.

"I was able to come back on my own once I moved to London and  I could afford then to travel on my own, so I made many visits and had a really good time coming back."

When asked by Dáithí Ó Sé how he felt about his song staring in the popular Baby Reindeer Series on Netflix, Gilbert said he was advised: "not to watch".

"My daughters have advised me not to watch it. I was approached to have my song in it some months ago. I turned it down, but then what happened was that the writer sent me a personal letter saying how much he was a huge fan of my music, and how much he had loved one of my albums way back in the 70s.

"We are going to be in Dublin for three nights, and we have two nights in Cork. We are planning to do several concerts in Waterford which we will be getting a move on very soon.

"I think the Waterford dates will be in December sometime, and that will be pretty special because after getting the freedom of the city I am looking forward to going back to Waterford to meet everyone.

"Bill is my right-hand man and he's a brilliant guitar player. It's just the two of us that tour, and there's a great relationship between us".
