'Nine or ten years?' - Waterford housing list wait times questioned

A Local Representative has questioned wait times for social housing applicants. Cllr. Mary Roche raised her concerns at a recent Plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.

As of January this year, there were over thirteen hundred people on the Council's housing list.

Social Democrats Councillor Mary Roche spoke at the recent meeting.

"How many people are currently on the housing list? What is the length of time in particular that they have been on it?

"Is it one, two, nine or ten years? I spoke to somebody who was eleven years on the list."

Nationally, there has been a decrease in wait times for local authority housing applicants seeking permanent accommodation.

Official figures were released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in March of last year.

Senior Executive for Housing with Waterford City and County Council, Ivan Grimes, gave the following response to Cllr. Mary Roche.

"We will circulate a summary of the housing list for Waterford and the duration that people who are on the list.

"It's published on an annual basis, meaning it is not recorded live but at a later date by the housing agency.
