Warm tributes have been paid to the Carrick-on-Suir mother killed in a road traffic collision on the N24.

Pregnant mother of one Claire Kavanagh, aged in her thirties, died in the two vehicle collision at Kilsheelan on Friday night last.

She was travelling with her husband Anthony Phelan when their vehicle was involved in a collision with another car.

She was pronounced dead at the scene while Mr Phelan was hospitalised for treatment of injuries.

The couple were just weeks away from celebrating their first wedding anniversary.

The other car was being driven by a male teenager who was hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries. Also in the vehicle were a male and female passenger, both in their teens.

Councillor Kieran Bourke said Claire came "from a fantastic family and was a fantastic mother to her little boy".

Her cousin, Haleigh Kavanagh Walsh, paid a heartfelt tribute on social media, writing: "My best friend, my partner in crime, my therapist, my confidant, my babysitter, my everything all wrapped into the bond we had as cousins."
