Waterford sees one of the biggest percentage increases in rent

Rent prices in Co Waterford have had the highest increase of anywhere in the southern half of the country.

According to the latest Daft.ie report, the average rent in the county for the second quarter of 2022 was €1,295, which marks an increase of 16.5%.

The only counties to record a higher percentage increase in the Republic were Donegal (18.5%), Sligo (16.6%), Leitrim (21.3%), Roscommon (18.1%), Longford (19.9%), and Cavan (18.3%).

There was a 17% increase in Waterford City, where the average rent is now €1,312.

When the figures are broken down into the different types of property, the biggest increase, year-on-year, was for a four-bed house, which has risen by 22%.

The average rent for a four-bed in Waterford City is now €1,314, while the average mortgage for the same property would be around €1,383.

Meanwhile, the average mortgage for a two-bed house in the city is €541 but the average rent is €992.

For those looking to rent a room locally, you can now expect to pay €438 for a single room and €455 for a double room.
