Puthandu, also known as Tamil New Year, is the first day of the year on the Tamil calendar and is traditionally celebrated as a festival by Tamil People across the world. The festival date is set with the solar cycle of the solar Hindu calendar, as the first day of the Tamil month Chithirai.

Hundreds of people from the South of India gathered to celebrate the New Year celebrations at the Waterford Academy of Music and Arts over the weekend.

WLR's Kyle Butler went along to see what it was all about.
