Remembering Des Manahan on Showtime

Remembering Des Manahan on Showtime. A special concert tribute took place in the Haven Hotel in Dunmore East to celebrate the late great Des Manahan.

Des had a long history with the Haven Hotel. He played Piano to entertain the tourists. He also performed with John Kelly the legendary former owner of the Haven Hotel.

We caught up with Carrie Crowley, Oscar Nominee and long standing friend of Des and Mona Manahan. Carrie appeared on stage many times with Des, playing opposite him on numerous occasions.

Richie Hayes forged a lifelong friendship with Des after being introduced to him as a young performer. He recalls the Wizard of Oz in Cork amongst other productions.

Lupita De Bhail also appeared on stage many times with Des. She shares some humorous anecdotes.

David Hennessy, along with Paul Kelly of the Haven Hotel, was organiser in chief of the event. David told us about the importance of the event.

To round our segment off there is a treat. Derek Ryan wowed the audience in the Haven Hotel on the day with a rendition of 'Ol Man River'. We recorded it along with the rest of the concert and share it in this audio podcast.

Our thanks to everybody who contributed to a wonderful day.
