Ballygunner forward Dessie Hutchinson is the October winner of the WLR FM / Granville Hotel Monthly GAA Award.
The Gunners’ forward was man of the match in the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship Final as the Gunners won an eight county title in a row against Roanmore. The Waterford star scored 1-9 from play from ten shots at the target. He finished the championship as top scorer from play with two goals and 21 points.
This is his third monthly award in three years.
Speaking to WLR, Dessie says it's always nice to get individual recognition.
“It’s great. Anytime you get an individual reward, it’s great. It’s nice for myself and my family. I’m three years back and this is my third award - so you can’t complain about that.”
Hutchinson says the Gunners brought their A-Game in the County Final, as he gave one of the greatest individual displays in the Waterford club championship.
“I think we just did so much work that week - leading into the county final. We were really cautious of Roanmore and what they could bring. Everyone was just really feeling it that day and I don’t think any team would have beaten us. We were all on song and luckily for myself, I was going well and I felt really confident about everything I was doing. On another day, you might go out and only score two points - but you might set up a lot of scores. I was just on the end of some great ball coming in from the lads.”
