1-6 for O'Neill but Gleeson injured as Mount Sion book quarter-final spot

Despite the loss of Austin Gleeson to a hip injury with just 12 minutes played, Mount Sion secured a second successive comprehensive victory yesterday afternoon - beating Tallow by 2-21 to 0-11 to book their place in the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship quarter-finals as Group B winners.

Martin O'Neill pitched in with 1-6 of the Sion tally, while Stephen Roche put in a fine display, scoring six points from play. Second half goals from O'Neill and Alan Kirwan proved crucial as last year's semi-finalists once again stated their credentials to be involved at the business end of the championship.

Three early points from Roche gave Mount Sion a four point lead on the 15 minute mark, while a great hook from Martin F O'Neill proved vital in denying Tallow forward Tommy Ryan the game's opening green flag.

Tallow hit six points in the first period - five of which came from Ryan, with the former county man pitching in 0-8 of his side's 0-11.

The first goal came on forty minutes when Alan Kirwan jinked his way past three Tallow men before cannoning the roof of the net, and five minutes later - Martin O'Neill made sure of the Sion success when doing similar from the same distance.

Tallow meet Abbeyside in the last game of Group B this weekend.
