Waterford City and County Council is to apply for Government funding in the wake of Storm of Ophelia.

Director of Services Fergus Galvin says they are still working on clearing roads and
are assessing the structural damage caused to the coastline, bridges, and drainage channels.

They had to hire in a lot of additional machinery and specialist tree surgeons.

Fianna Fail Councillor Michael J O'Ryan praised the work of the Council across the Comeragh Area.
He says the Nire River increased by eight feet in six hours at one stage last week.

Councillor Liam Brazil of Fine Gael also hailed the response to last week's storm.
He said it was the worst storm he had ever seen.
