Council to appeal to Minister to keep ISPCC services in Waterford open.

Council to appeal to Minister to keep ISPCC services in Waterford open.

Waterford Metropolitan Council has agreed unanimously to appeal to the Children's Minister to stop the closure of a child services body.

The local branch of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children is set to close by the first of December due to a lack of funding.

Minister Katherine Zappone has so far committed €750 million in investment for child and family agency Tusla in 2018 - but no announcement has been for the ISPCC.

Sinn Féin's Breda Brennan says the closure of the Waterford ISPCC branch is also a regional issue.
