Waterford Metropolitan Council has agreed unanimously to appeal to the Children's Minister to stop the closure of a child services body.
The local branch of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children is set to close by the first of December due to a lack of funding.
Minister Katherine Zappone has so far committed €750 million in investment for child and family agency Tusla in 2018 - but no announcement has been for the ISPCC.
Sinn Féin's Breda Brennan says the closure of the Waterford ISPCC branch is also a regional issue.
