Waterford TD says there are major questions to be answered over Garda finances

In an internal report, obtained by RTE's This Week programme, auditors said that "no assurance" can be given that procurement rules were being properly followed on major IT contracts.

Sinn Féin's David Cullinane is also a member of the Public Accounts Committee and says they've been here before with the force.

"The committee have spent months examining the spend of money in Templemore and have published a damning report in relation to process failures," he says, "and now here we go again where we have fresh reports - saying that it is not in a position to give assurances to the public that the procurement process in place in some parts of An Garda Síochána is what it should be."

He says questions must be answered and stressed that senior members of the force need to be held to account.

"Until we get to a point where people are properly held to account and we put in place the reforms that are necessary, we are going to have more of these instances."
