An elderly couple in County Waterford have been left shaken following an aggravated burglary at their home last night.
The couple in their late 60s and early 70s were in their home beside their shop in the Ballyneal/Clonea Power area when at least two people broke in.
The incident happened at around 9 o’clock.
Local Gardai and the Regional Support Unit responded but the suspects fled with a sum of cash in a vehicle in an unknown direction.
An incident room has been set up in Tramore Garda Station and anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area between 8.30pm and 10.30pm is asked to contact them on 051-391620.
Seanie Power is a Fine Gael Councillor in the area, he is asking people to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to Gardai. He’s encouraging people to sign up for the text alert in the area. Councillor Power says “without doubt there’s a lot of people in rural areas living in fear”, he says it’s so important “to report if you see a suspicious car on the road”.
