31 arrests in Waterford as part of Operation Storm

Gardai in Waterford City have arrested 31 people over the past two days.

They were held for burglary, theft, criminal damage, drugs and robbery offences.

16 people have since been charged and will appear before Waterford District Court

Searches of 9 premises were conducted and 24 checkpoints were held at various parts of the city leading to the seizure of a quantity of drugs as well as ammunition.

Three vehicles were also seized.

Superintendent Chris Delaney from Waterford Garda Station says they also increased the presence of Gardai in the City Centre. He told WLR News that they "had an extra 31 beat patrols in the town and city centre" over the past two days. He added that they "will continue with this strategy particularly in relation to the City Centre and the local neighbourhoods.

Superintendent Chris Delaney says their new "sectoral policing" plan is in place where they assign a particular Garda to a particular area. He explained that they had "33 of those patrols in the local communities and neighbourhoods as part of Operation Thor".

Crime Prevention leaflets were also handed out to members of the public to increase the awareness of protection of personal property and possessions.
