Waterford County Board record surplus in 2018

The Waterford county board have recorded a surplus of €57,720 in their 2018 accounts ahead of Thursday's convention in Dungarvan. Income totalled €2,198,194 while expenditure came to €2,140,924.

The cost of county teams fell by €100,000 to €772,122. The senior hurlers’ holiday fund amounted to an additional €221,176 but Central Council contributed €80,000 and the players supplied €71,240.

The Déise hurlers spent €424,023, a drop of €178,000 on 2017. Club Déise funded a €36,525 training camp to Fota Island during the summer.

€221,310 was shelled out on the footballers, an increase of €62,000. Gate receipts rose by almost €80,000 with a total of €303,188 taken in at local games. Fundraising activities improved by €18,000.

County secretary Pat Flynn thanked clubs for their support of the Walsh Park project in his annual report. He said that club delegates backed the development on three occasions during 2018. The county board are currently awaiting approval from An Bord Pleanála to commence works at the city ground after two appeals were lodged.

“I would especially like to sincerely thank the clubs of the county, your members and the management executive for your strong and consistent support for the development despite the efforts of certain individuals and media personnel to disrupt the project," commented Flynn in his report. "There are many challenges to overcome over the next few months but I am confident working together we will achieve our objective and have a stadium all involved in Waterford GAA will be proud of.”
