Waterford Oireachtas members are meeting with the Health Minister to discuss cardiac services at UHW.

Figures showed that more than 400 people were waiting for cardiology procedures at University Hospital Waterford at the end of August.

A further 940 were awaiting an outpatient appointment.

Leaked extracts from the recent Acute Coronary Syndrome report showed that Waterford Hospital was one of the busiest services in the country.

Sinn Fein TD David Cullinane says that document clearly showed the need for improved services locally.

"It's an important report because it went into each of the PPCI centres in the state," he said. "The figures don't lie and they show that there is an unassailable lead for a second cath lab at University Hospital Waterford."

Deputy Cullinane said it's important that local and regional TDs and senators are united on the issue.

"When it comes to Waterford issues and it comes to something like a cath lab, which would have a massive impact on people, I think there is an onus on Oireachtas members to work together."
