The Taoiseach has told Waterford IT and IT Carlow to get on with the application for Technological University.

The Taoiseach has told Waterford IT and IT Carlow to get on with the application for Technological University.

TU Dublin was established in January and the Munster consortium submitted their application in February.

However, the South East grouping has yet to follow suit.

Speaking in Waterford, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar called on them to act.

He said "Get on with it, we are waiting for you, I'm really committed to there being a technological university for the South East.
I had hoped it would be the first one, but the first one turned out to be in Dublin, I would have liked the first one to be in the South East. I think it will make a real difference, both
in terms of allowing young people to stay in the region to get higher education, attracting students and international students into the region and also we know that IT's have been
really great in spinning off new jobs and new companies, so I'm a big supporter of it here in the South East and also in Munster and Connacht Ulster as well".

The Taoiseach continued saying "One thing we are not going to do is lower educational standards just to re-designate an IT as a technological university. If we did that, we would be
letting everyone down, so it's up to the IT's to put in their bids and make sure that they reach the standards and we are waiting for those applications and it they meet the standards there
won't be any delays from central Government".
