Essential Listening over Christmas on WLR

There is no shortage of great radio for you to listen to over the Christmas break this year on Ireland's Local Station of the Year WLRfm.

Tune in on Christmas Eve to hear Santa take time out of his very busy schedule to chat to the children of Waterford. He will be joining Ollie Carroll in studio from 3pm and he will have some very special guests with him, including Elf number one and Rudolph. If you would like to be in with a chance to chat to the big man himself simply send an email to [email protected] with your phone number.

From 6pm then we will have a Breaking News Update on Santa's journeys as he gets closer and closer to Waterford.

Then on Christmas Day we have a full schedule starting with breakfast with Mojo from 7am, followed by Maria McCann, who looks back on a bumper year for the Saturday Cafe.

Then do not miss a replay of the Christmas concert featuring Waterford Soprano Vanessa Whelan and Waterford Tenor Glenn Murphy. The concert was a highlight of the Christmas run-in and also raised vital funds for the WLR Christmas Appeal in aid of St Vincent De Paul. The concert will be re-broadcast from 12 midday, which will get you right in the mood for your turkey and ham dinner!

Then Ray C (with special guest Carrie Baxter), Rick Whelan, and Michelle Ryan will have your Christmas tunes right through the afternoon and evening.

Relax on St Stephen's Day as the legendary John O Shea brings you a Christmas Music Special from 10am until 1pm.

If you missed the powerful tribute to the late Billy McCarthy, which was broadcast on the 5th anniversary of his death in November, then you can listen back on Monday the 27th December from 10am. With contributions from his partner Des, his brother Ronan as well as those who worked closely with him for years, we look back at some of his most memorable moments. It was chaos Billy!

The world of music was buzzing earlier this year when it was confirmed that the country music superstar Garth Brooks would be coming back to Ireland to perform 5 nights at Croke Park. Join Vinny Bradley from 6pm on Tuesday 28th December for a Garth Brooks special as he plays all of his biggest tunes and chats to the man himself about the upcoming gigs.
