WATCH: The Solas Centre releases new video to outline its many services

The Solas Cancer Support Centre provides services to the people of Waterford and the South East. These include counselling, relaxation therapies and group support services provided on site. The team at Solas offers support to those affected by cancer, their families and carers. The centre is seen as  a safe place to talk, relax and express emotions.

Need for services

The Solas Centre has experienced a 150% increase in the numbers of people attending in-person since its doors reopened on the 6th of September. More than 100 clients attended a range of support services in both Waterford City and Dungarvan last week. That’s up from 40 clients during the same week in 2020.

Watch: New video

The Solas Centre has produced a new video, with the support of WLR, highlighting how easy it is to engage with the service. It’s encouraging people affected by cancer in Waterford and across the Southeast to reach out for support. You can watch that video here:

Centre Manager, Tracy McDaid, says "following COVID guidelines over the last 19 months has meant that services have been curtailed. We are now really pleased that all of our support services have resumed and we are back to full services in Waterford City and in Dungarvan. It was wonderful to see so many clients in person last week.

“Thanks to the support of WLR FM we have produced a short video to explain what we do and to reassure people that engaging with our free services is very simple. We understand that making contact for the first time is not always easy but we are here to help and encourage anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis to make that first phone call to us.”
