Council says 'poor driver behaviour' to blame for Farronshoneen works issues

Many of the frustrations reported around the roadworks at Farronshoneen can be blamed on 'poor driver behaviour,' says senior engineer on the Active Travel team with Waterford City & County Council.

His comments come following queries raised by several local councillors during last Monday's meeting of the Metropolitan District of Waterford Council.

Cllr. David Daniels raised the issue of communication with the public around the timeline of the works, which are due to end tomorrow. Works are due to recommence at night from January 15th for roads resurfacing, which will be undertaken by Roadstone.

Speaking at the meeting, Michael Murphy said the Council did all they could to keep the public informed of the changes through local media and their own social media channels.

When responding to 'traffic chaos' around changing lanes, he said this is down to 'poor driver behaviour' which cannot be the responsibility of the Council, but may instead be an issue for Gardaí.

Works have been ongoing since October, with work undertaken on all four arms of the roundabout.
