Covid rate below average in all local areas

The incidence rate of Covid-19 is below the national average in all six local electoral areas in Waterford, but case numbers have risen in all bar one part of the county - Waterford City South

Figures for the fortnight between July 27th and August 9th show the national average at 422.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Carndonagh in Co Donegal has the highest infection rate in the Republic. Almost 1 in 53 people tested positive for Covid over the latest two-week period – 1,881 cases per 100,000 people. This is the fourth consecutive week that Carndonagh has had the highest rate.
There are no areas in Ireland with rates below 100 cases per 100,000. Roscrea-Templemore (115) and Clonmel (140) in County Tipperary are the areas with the lowest infection rates.
Local Figures

Locally, the electoral area which has seen the highest increase in confirmed Covid cases is Dungarvan. Cases have doubled in the West Waterford area in the past week from 29 a week prior to 60 in the past two weeks - giving an incidence rate of 292.7.

The next worst affected area is Waterford City South with an incidence rate of 200.2 - although cases have fallen by 15% there from 53 to 45.

Cases in Portlaw / Kilmacthomas have risen 24% from 25 to 31, with the incidence rate at 181.1. Waterford City East has also seen a slight increase from 37 cases to 41, up 11% to 178.4.

Tramore / Waterford City West had an extra two cases, up to 37 from 35 - with the incidence rate at 165.4.

Lismore no longer has the lowest incidence rate in the county, as cases jumped 50% there from 12 to 18 - giving a slightly higher rate than Tramore / Waterford City West at 167.8.
