Waterford inner city residents renew call for Council to scrap traffic plan

Residents have expressed health and safety concerns due to the increased traffic volumes through the inner city.

They've also hit out at what they've described as a lack of consultation on the part of local authority management when it comes to the implementation of the new plan.

Ollie Breslin is involved with the 'Scrap Waterford City Traffic Plan' campaign.

He says residents want to be involved in decisions which affect them.

"We're asking for the traffic plan to be scrapped and for a new plan to be brought in," he said, "but this time to actually involve the local residents and the local community."

He added that the local business community also have concerns over the redirection of traffic in the area.

"We have seen excessive traffic bypassing other streets, coming down Doyle Street to gain access to the bridge." said Inner City Resident and committee representative Noreen McGrath.

"This is the start of the traffic being put up to the top of the town, to Barrack Street and the surrounding streets. We are going to be very much impacted."
