Waterford's Christmas Covid rate one of the country's lowest

The incidence rate of Covid-19 in Waterford over Christmas was one of the lowest in the country.

New figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre show the levels of infection during the last week of 2021.

Westmeath had more than double the national average with 3,056 cases per 100,000 people, compared to the national figure of 1,366.

Clare had the second-highest rate at 1,974, followed by Kilkenny at 1,855 and Longford at 1,820.

Waterford had 1,211 cases between December 26th and January 1st, giving a rate of 1,042.

The report also shows the median age of those with Omicron was 29 years of age.
