A popular Dungarvan business has highlighted the importance of purchasing school uniforms locally this year.

Monica's on Mary Street has been selling clothing for local schoolchildren for decades.

However, six schools have now decided to move to an online retailer - as Breda Mahony from Monica's explained to WLR.

"The first I heard about it was when parents starting coming in within the last three to four weeks saying they had received emails to say there would be a new school tracksuit and this is your online link for buying it."

Breda continued: "Normally the transition before changing a uniform would be two years so that you would get your stock diminished as much as possible."

She has appealed to parents to buy their uniforms for the coming academic year as normal.

"Dungarvan is a fabulous town and has so many different shops and services to offer," she said.

"If we get rid of the small shops and go online, what do we have left?"
