Waterford FC had to settle for a share of the spoils at the RSC last night as Longford Town came from behind to force a draw.

The Blues started brightly and forced a number of corners and on six minutes, Barry Baggely’s fine delivery from the right into a crowded six yard box was turned into his own net by Darragh Lynch.

Wassim Aouachria had a great chance to double the lead on the half hour but he blazed over from close range and then Jack Brady saved from close range when he parried a Roland Idowu cross into the path of Conor Parsons who shot straight back at the keeper.

Two left footed efforts from Chris Conn Clarke just before the break went close as well but just over.

Longford Town got a lifeline on fifty six minutes when Shane Elworthy’s cross got behind the defence and Mohammed Boudiaf got down low to head back across Paul Martin into the bottom corner.

A Charles Ondo shot across the face of the goal was as much as the home side could muster for the remainder of the game and Longford held on for a priceless point.
