O'Regan to the rescue for Waterford

O'Regan to the rescue for Waterford

A first half penalty save from Brianna O'Regan helped Waterford to a six point win over Limerick in the Munster Camogie Quarter Final at a showery TUS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday (0-12 to 0-6).

The De La Salle number one made two massive saves from Caoimhe Costelloe as the Déise set up a last four meeting with Tipperary next weekend. She dived to her left to stop a fourth minute penalty and put her body on the line to thwart the Limerick midfielder early in the second half. The Waterford shot stopper also dealt with high deliveries around the square.

In a scrappy encounter, 2023 Player of the Year Beth Carton contributed seven points (six frees), 2020 All Star Niamh Rockett struck three second half efforts and captain Lorraine Bray got one in each half. All Star defender Vikki Falconer was included among the subs as she continues her recovery from a cruciate knee ligament injury. Laoise Forrest started at full back with Clodagh Carroll deployed as sweeper.

Caoimhe Costelloe (0-4) and Caoimhe Lyons (0-2) led the way for Limerick. Joe Quaid's charges rued those two missed goal chances.

In difficult conditions, Waterford shot six second half wides. An area to improve on for next weekend's semi final clash with league champions Tipp.
