Power's Masters hopes dwindle after Valspar Championship

Seamus Power's hopes of playing at a second Masters Tournament hang by a thread following his T26 finish at the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour.

The Touraneena native went into the final round with a chance at claiming his third-ever title on the tour, but his Sunday performance was far off the pace needed to hit the top.

Having carded rounds of 68, 69 and 68, his final round was his worst by some margin, shooting a 76 to finish with a five-over round.

Power and his playing partner, Keith Mitchell, both suffered troubling closing rounds with Mitchell carding bogeys or worse on eight holes.

The Touraneena man has dropped two further places in the world rankings, now sitting 105th.

If he is to play at Augusta he will have one more chance to stamp his ticket when he lines out at the Texas Valero Open next week where a win will be his only recourse if he is to once again drive down Magnolia Lane.
