Waterford family hoping to raise €100k for cancer treatment

A Waterford Olympian is trying to raise 100 thousand euro for lifesaving cancer treatment for his wife.

Cyclist Ciaran Power set up the GoFundMe page a week ago and 45 thousand euro has been raised so far.

Lisa and Ciaran, who are both 42, got married in 2002 but the pair have been together since they were teenagers and have three children.

Ciaran wrote: "Lisa was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 at the age of 37 our kids were 5, 7 and 9 at the time.

"Unfortunately this year in January we heard the dreaded words Lisa’s cancer had returned it is in her spine, pelvis, ribs, shoulder, liver and adrenal gland.

"Lisa is now officially stage 4. She is currently working closely with her doctors at Waterford Regional Hospital and Whitfield actively receiving treatment to control the cancer with chemotherapy and radiation.

"Lisa is researching clinical trials in the USA and is hoping to get accepted .

"We are trying to raise funds to help with Lisa’s finances for scans, alternative treatments, medical appointments and hopefully if she’s accepted to a trial the funds will also be used towards this."
