Appeal for witnesses in Waterford murder case

Gardai in Waterford City have launched a murder investigation into the death of Damien O'Brien.

The 27 year-old, who was  a keyboard player with Waterford band Chimpanbee, suffered a number of head injuries during an assault at the junction of John Street and the Manor in the early hours of Saturday July 7th.

He died in hospital on Friday.

Following the results of the postmortem Gardai confirmed that the investigation has been upgraded to murder.

A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the assault on July 8th and was released without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
