Young girl rescued from rip in Tramore

A young girl has been rescued from the sea in Tramore this afternoon after getting into difficulty.

Tramore RNLI were alerted to a girl caught in a rip at Ladies Slip shortly before 4.00 pm this afternoon.

They were at the scene within 9 minutes of their pagers going off.

A local surfer got to the girl, who is aged around 12, as the lifeboat arrived. She was transferred to the lifeboat and brought back to the station where she was reunited with her father.

A spokesperson for Tramore RNLI told WLR News that the Ladies Slip area can be particularly dangerous during low tide.

Meanwhile, Waterford Council is reminding the public that there will be no beach lifeguard service at Waterford's Blue Flag beaches this weekend.

They say that swimmers should follow the advice of Water Safety Ireland and stay safe.

Weekend lifeguard cover will start at Ardmore, Clonea, Dunmore East and Tramore on Saturday, 6th June, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A full lifeguard service will begin at all of those locations together with Bonmahon on Saturday, 27th June, 2020 , 7 days per week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
