Ireland’s IMRO Local Station of The Year, WLR, has appointed Paula O’Gorman (née Guiry) as its new Events and Marketing Lead to help increase brand awareness for WLR and that of its many clients.
Following WLR’s success in recent years, which saw the station scoop 14 IMRO Awards, launch brand new studios, and introduce a new state-of-the-art Outside Broadcast Unit, the station is expanding, ready for another year of growth.
Paula has 20 years of experience in marketing, primarily within Waterford, where she discovered her passion for brand marketing.
Paula is excited to bring her knowledge and experience to the WLR team. Paula comments: “One thing that attracted me to WLR was its ambition and its great company culture.” Paula will be responsible for planning and managing large-scale events in Waterford and creating media partnerships to increase brand awareness, promote products or services, and generate leads and sales through various marketing channels such as social media, email, advertising, and public relations.
“My passion comes from getting into the hearts and minds of customers, and I wanted my next career move to be within a company that believes in the power of a brand and a company that wants to help Waterford businesses grow. I believe WLR aligns with that.”

WLR Managing Director Des Whelan said he was delighted that Paula was taking over what is essentially a new role. “post-Covid we have a number of important events and sponsorships which will require a focused and driven individual who can further enhance the beneficial effects these events have on the community and local economy. I am very pleased that someone as able and experienced as Paula has joined the team here in the Broadcast Centre. As well as organising events like the WLR Viking Marathon, The GAA Awards and The Waterford Business Awards, Paula will be central to helping build WLR's brand with listeners and businesses in Waterford.”
