New Waterford Theatre Collective awarded €150,000 to put on show

A new Waterford Theatre Collective made up of 3 local theatre professionals called 'Shakespeare Squared' has been awarded funding to put on a show.

Joe Meagher, Eimear Cheasty and Deirdre Dwyer were granted €150,000 from the the Arts Council to stage an outdoor production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

The play will be be performed in five locations in the Viking Triangle for 2 weeks next September.

As Deirdre explained to WLR News, the funding will help support artists and technicians by providing important employment opportunities.

They will be hiring 10 performers for six weeks, as well as designers, technicians, production managers, and local event organisers.

"We're really excited to be making it here in Waterford for Waterford people," Deirdre said.

In terms of longevity, Deirdre says she believes this is just the beginning.

She hopes that anyone with an interest will travel from around the country to see the show.

It will be produced in conjunction with Waterford's Theatre Royal.
