Waterford records 432 Covid cases in two weeks

432 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Waterford in the two weeks from August 10th to August 23rd.

According to the latest figures, the rate of Covid-19 has risen in every part of Waterford in the past week.

Area breakdown

As cases numbers have increased nationally - just one local electoral area, the Dungarvan LEA (712.3) has an incidence rate higher than that of the national average of 526.4 per 100,000 people.

146 cases were recorded in the Dungarvan local electoral area, which stretches from Lemybrien to the East Cork border, in the fortnight from August 10th to August 23rd. The rate is 93% higher than the next highest in county.

That’s a rise of 29% compared to 113 cases in the fortnight prior.

Cases have risen by 33% in neighbouring Lismore. 24 cases have been confirmed there with the incidence rate at 223.8. That rate is the sixth lowest in Ireland.

Portlaw / Kilmacthomas recorded 59 cases - up 23% on the week before. The incidence rate in mid-Waterford is at 344.6.

Waterford City East, like Dungarvan, experienced a 29% rise - recording 85 cases to give an incidence rate of 369.8, which is the second highest in the county.

Waterford City South has had a significant increase in cases with a 57% jump - the highest increase. 71 cases have been confirmed with the rate at 315.9 per 100,000 people.

Tramore / Waterford City West maintains both the lowest incidence rate in Waterford and the fourth lowest incidence rate in Ireland, despite a 27% increase in positive cases. 47 cases have been noted there, with the rate of 210.1 significantly lower than the national average.

Nationally, Carndonagh in Donegal has the highest rate of Covid-19 within the community for the sixth consecutive week. The incidence rate is 2,693.9 per 100,000 - roughly 1 in every 37 people.

The lowest rate in Ireland is in Muinebeag in Carlow, at 147.2.
