"No-one is going to buy or sell a pub for the next three years."

So says a Dungarvan publican as one of the proposals in the newly-announced licencing reforms is for a change in how licences are obtained.

They will no longer have to be purchased but can be applied for through the courts.

It's due to kick-in in three years' time but vintners say it will obliterate the value of their own licences - currently valued at between 50 and 70 thousand euro.

John McGrath of Downey's Bar told Déise Today they don't want it to happen.

Cllr. Seamus O'Donnell, who runs John Paul's Bar in An Sean Phobal - has also described new legislation which will allow nightclubs to remain open until 6am as 'crazy'.
