As the local elections 2024 draw to a close with all 32 seats filled across Waterford City and County, it didn't go down without some criticism from several local representatives.

Sinn Féin Councillor representing Waterford City South, John Hearne, spoke to WLR's Damien Tiernan once he was elected, and believes that certain people within his party co conspired to not get him elected.

Cllr. Hearne has been at the forefront of the transformation of Larchville and Lisduggan, a largely working-class housing estate in Waterford City in recent years, spearheading the Larchville/Lisduggan Residents Association.

Cllr. Hearne has spoken out before regarding the singing of ballad songs, saying that people are reluctant to sing them as they fear that it would "damage" the party's (Sinn Féin) image.
