Pat Rockett, of Pat Rockett Karate and Kickboxing Academy, is running a "Fight Night" on March 12th, to fundraise for number of local organisations.

The mental health organisation Waterford Haven Hub, Waterford City River Rescue, and Waterford Marine Search and Rescue will all benefit from the event at the Crystal Leisure Centre.

It's hoped 40 participants will take part, adhering to Covid guidelines.

Stephen O'Brien is one of the participants. Speaking on Deise Today, he said he lost a good friend to suicide and he's a huge believer in the mental health benefits of physical exercise. He described his friend Damien, who died in February 2015:

Damien was always the life and soul of the party, he loved making everyone else feel good about themselves, even if you were having a bad day.. so to do this in honour of him.. it's a no-brainer

Pat Rockett told Damien Tiernan that if people want to find out more, there's an information evening about the Fight Night at his Academy in Ozier Park, from 7pm this Thursday January 13th. More details are available on the club's Facebook page.
