People waiting to be seen at University Hospital Waterford's Emergency Department were turned away overnight.

The hospital is still under unprecedented pressure, following a fire which has affected services in Wexford.

Edward was one of many people turned away last night having waited over 5 hours outside in an emergency tent.

He told Deise Today why he was sent to hospital, and what happened when he arrived.

"First of all, I went to my GP in Ardmore - and he sent me straight to Ardkeen. I presented myself to A&E, went in and they took my details - I saw the nurse in there and she sent me across to the Emergency Care Assessment Unit. They put me into the tent that's outside Accident and Emergency. They called me half an hour later to go in and take my bloods around half 3, and it was at 10 past 8 when the assessment area was packed. It was literally packed with 30 to 40 people and the head nurse came out and announced that there was no doctor available until after 10pm last night."
