Blues make the trip to take on league leaders

Waterford FC travel to Tolka Park to take on Shelbourne FC this Friday in their latest SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division clash.

The Blues come into Friday’s game on the back of a strong 4-1 victory over Dundalk at the RSC last Friday. A Maleace Asamoah hat-trick along with a Christie Pattisson strike saw the Blues comfortably see off the former champions.

That win against Dundalk sees the Blues lift themselves into fourth spot in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table, after picking up maximum points from their last three games.

Keith Long’s side travel to Tolka Park on Friday looking to add to their impressive away form this year, as the Blues boast the best away record in the league so far this season with 14 points picked up from their 8 games away from home.

Waterford will be backed by hundreds of Blues supporters on Friday night, as the side go in search of their fourth win on the bounce.

Shelbourne welcome the Blues to Tolka on Friday looking to return to their early-season form. After a strong start to the season, the current league leaders have picked up just one win in their last eight league games.

The sides met on the opening night of the season at the RSC, when an early Maleace Asamoah strike was cancelled out by a Sean Boyd strike ten-minutes from time, as the sides had to share the spoils to kick off their seasons.

Barry Baggley & Connor Evans miss out on the trip to Tolka Park on Friday. Ryan Burke returned to training this week, and is in contention for tomorrow night. Kacper Skwierczyński has also returned to training and will be part of the matchday squad tomorrow, along with defender Adam Queally.

“We want to go to Tolka Park and play well – we will need to against the league leaders", said Keith Long. "We are looking to improve performances every week in a collective effort to get better as a group The boys have shown they are capable so it’s about building that consistency piece – week in week out.”

WLR will bring you the game live from 7.30pm this Friday - thanks to McConnell's Toyota Waterford.
