Cassidy cruises into third round of Olympic qualifiers

One minute and twenty-five seconds is all it took for Kelyn Cassidy to secure passage to the third round of preliminaries at the "Road to Paris" World Boxing Qualifiers in Italy.

The Ballybeg native stopped his Guatemalan opponent, Wyatt Trujillo before the bout even got going.

Trujillo - who has always going to be out of his depth in this match - started fast and was looking for Cassidy from the first bell, but the three-time Irish senior elite champion stayed on his bike and picked shots to stun the boxer in the red corner.

He landed early and often, stepping in to crunch Trujillo to both the head and the body.

The work to the body opened up the Guatemalan's defence, with Cassidy sensing his moment to land a thunderous left hand sending Trujillo to the canvas.

The right hand that landed as Trujillo stumbled backward was not needed to finish the job off as the referee went without a standing the ten count, and waved off the bout.

Cassidy is now booked into the third round of prelims and will be back in the ring on Sunday.
