Kelly Ann Hogan and Conor Murray win October WLR / Granville Hotel Monthly GAA Award

Kelly Ann Hogan and Conor Murray are the joint winners of the WLR / Granville Hotel Monthly GAA Award for October.

Hogan kicked five points for Ballymacarbry as they won their 42nd county title in a row against great rivals Comeragh Rangers.

The Waterford attacker got 2-5 against Fethard in the Munster quarter-final.

Hogan was central to Ballymac once again in the Munster final where they beat the Banner for the second consecutive year, claiming a 16th Munster title.

“I was probably a bit surprised actually,” Hogan said when receiving her first monthly award. “Probably expecting Bríd [McMaugh] if it was anyone from our club, but yeah, happy out with it now.”

She will be part of the Ballymac side that faces Clan Eireann in the All-Ireland semi-final on December 2nd.

Conor Murray was a key man as Rathgormack regained the Conway Cup.

He scored 1-10 from play in the 2023 championship.

The Déise forward pulled the strings in the county final victory over The Nire. Murray will be unavailable for selection for the Waterford team in 2024 as he is away travelling in New Zealand and Australia.

While away travelling, Murray was unable to receive his award in person, but his uncle Joe Murray – who is a selector with the club's senior football side - accepted it on his behalf.

He told WLR Sport that Conor simply loves playing football.

“Conor has always wanted to play at the highest level with the county, which is tough in Division Four, but they don’t see it as a drudge, those players. They see it as an honour to play Waterford,” said Joe.

“Coming back to Rathgormack then, who are one of the top teams in Waterford, it is an extra release in so far as there is a chance of success and they seem to thrive on that.”
