Ladies' footballers cruise to victory in Cork

The Waterford ladies' footballers have beaten Cork for the first time since 2017 with a commanding display at Pairc Ui Rinn this afternoon.

It's a first win of the season for the Deise in Division 1 of the National Ladies' Football League, finishing with nine points in hand following a superb first-half performance.

Waterford led by 1-9 to a point, a ten-point advantage at the break.

Aine O'Neill kicked 1-2 including the opening goal on 14 minutes, while Kellyann Hogan contributed three points and Clare Walsh and Lauren McGregor another two from play.

Katie Murray and Brid McMaugh were also on target in the opening period, with Cork's sole effort coming from the boot of Daire Kiely.

Clare Walsh grabbed the second goal of the game shortly after the interval to move the Deise 2-11 to 0-03 ahead, and they never looked back from that point.

Lydia McDonagh scored with essentially the last kick of the match to add consolation for Cork, but it is a first win over their Munster rivals in seven years for Waterford.
