RTÉ’s new two-part series, “Stressed”, looks at the science of stress and how it’s impacting negatively on Irish society. Presenter and ‘Irish Times’ columnist spoke to Maria what it’s like to be the presenter and contributor to the program.
Speaking to Maria about the results from an app that was released by documentary makers previous to the making of the show, the Waterford native said :
” We asked people to measure their mood at different times during the day over a four week period, and at the end, we found that of the people who participated, two-thirds of them regularly or often feel a high level of stress and feelings of being overwhelmed and anxious, so that’s not good.”
She said her biggest takeaway she gets from contributing and presenting the series is that we can do about the external factors that cause stress.
“One of the women in the program is Ger who is a carer in Galway, she has a son who has a degenerative condition and another child who has A.D.H.D and she is busy all the time, always stressing.
“Through taking steps to change how she responds to those external factors she is feeling so much better now, she is really enjoying her life and feeling she is better able to cope, which is amazing.”
