1. Waterford to get €10m facility for children with additional needs
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has confirmed that the development of a modern multidisciplinary centre for children with additional needs will get underway in Waterford next year. The €10m hub will cater to children in the city and in south Kilkenny and will provide early intervention and respite care for children with complex additional needs. A parents group, Touching Hearts, has welcomed the news, as the current centre used by families is out of date and lacks important facilities needed to help their children.
2. Status orange rainfall warning issued for Waterford
Met Éireann is predicting up to 80 millimetres of rain to fall across Waterford from 7pm tonight until 9pm tomorrow. At the same time, a similar wind warning will be in operation for Munster and 7 other counties.
3. Waterford Viking Marathon to go virtual for 2021
The annual Waterford Viking Marathon will take a different format this year, as it goes virtual for the first time. The event will take place from June 24th to 27th with runners being invited to choose their goal with Full, Half and Quarter Marathon options. When registering participants will have the option to raise funds for a charity of their choice, be it one close to their heart or perhaps a local community group they are part of.
4. Redlane Boutique to close physical shop in Tramore
Redlane Boutique which opened in Tramore in 2005 will close its physical location later this month and transition to online-only at redlane.ie The fashion boutique was Ireland’s first independent fashion retailer to launch an e-commerce website back in 2008 and has since seen many of the nation’s fashion retailers follow suit, particularly over the last year.
5. Tramore RNLI launched after swimmer sustains injuries near the Guillamene
A male swimmer who got into difficulty near the Guillamene in Tramore this afternoon has been taken to University Hospital Waterford. Tramore RNLI launched their lifeboat this afternoon after they received a report of a swimmer in difficulty near the Guillamene. A member of the public alerted emergency services to the incident at 12:18pm and Tramore RNLI Lifeboat arrived at the scene at around 12:25pm.
6. There are a whole host of virtual Seachtain na Gaeilge events being celebrated in Waterford this year
It's time to get practicing your cúpla focal as plans for Seachtain na Gaeilge 2021 were released today. The Irish Office of Waterford City & County Council is collaborating with a number of different groups to provide a range of events and activities and people from all over the world are welcome to join online to celebrate the Irish language and culture of the Déise.
