Mandatory hotel quarantine booking portal goes live

The online booking portal for passengers arriving into the State who are required to quarantine in a hotel is now live.

The Department of Health confirmed that all passengers arriving from designated States included on the Government’s list of ‘Category 2’ countries, which are deemed high risk for the transmission of Covid-19, will be required to complete a two-week isolation period in a hotel from 4am on Friday.

Arrivals from these countries will have to pre-book their stay in a designated quarantine facility and pay prior to arrival.

2. Waterford Traveller group criticises ‘populist’ councillors for rejection of Carrickphierish plans

The decision by Waterford councillors to reject Traveller accommodation for Carrickphierish has been slammed by a local Traveller group.

A proposal containing 7 bays was brought before the council last week, with local authority management saying it would help regularise dwellings at the site.

Caravans and chalets have been moved into the area without planning permission in recent times.

3. Waterford soccer club fined for breach of Covid guidelines

Villa FC has accepted a fine for breaking Covid guidelines.

The Ozier Park based club confirmed that a small number of club members used the facilities during level 5 lockdown, while youth soccer leagues are postponed.

A spokesperson for the club said the club has remained closed throughout lockdown and this was an isolated incident where a very small number of club members used the club grounds for a kick-about.

4. Increase in Covid-19 cases detected during mass testing of schools

110 Covid cases were detected following the mass testing of schools in the week to March 20th.

That’s a 150% increase on the previous week when there were 44 cases reported.

More than 4,000 tests were carried out at 183 primary, secondary and special education schools.
