The commercial case for Waterford Airport is 'difficult'.

That's according to Green Party Leader, and Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan who was speaking to WLR ahead of his party's think-in which gets underway in Tramore today.

"We have so many airports in the country - Knock, Shannon, Kerry, Cork, Dublin, Belfast. It's not an easy commercial proposition to start getting the base that would give you a commercial service."

He says he hasn't seen the commercial proposal for Waterford Airport.

"It hasn't come to us and I think it would be difficult to develop it because of the volume of airports we have serving a relatively small population."
