GAA clubs across Waterford are taking part in the Ireland Lights Up campaign. This encourages clubs to bring communities together in a safe environment on the dark winter evenings.

Ardmore GAA switch on the floodlights every Thursday night and health club co-ordinator Aoife O'Dwyer says that they have got a great response so far. "We open our doors to the community, everybody signs in and we do a few laps around the pitch, as many as people want. It's all lit up; we have a nice walking path. Then, they come in and have a cuppa and a chat afterwards. It's just a great way for the wider community to come into the club and to mingle and to see each other, especially in the depths of winter."

People of all ages are turning up in their hi-vis jackets to do laps of the field. "We have a little guy here who is only one! We have people up to their 80s coming in every week and they really look forward to it.  They come in and they have a chat afterwards. The kids seem to love it."
