Goals prove key as Kerry beat Waterford Munster opener

Goals prove key as Kerry beat Waterford Munster opener

Full-time score Kerry 2.08 - 0.8 Waterford

Waterford started quickest and got the opening point of the day through Bríd McMaugh, but moments later, Waterford's full-back Megan Dunford went off with a serious knee injury, which manager Pat Sullivan described as "not good".

Kerry got the next four scores, but Waterford had it level at four points a piece just before halftime.

When Niamh Carmody got the ball 70 yards from the Waterford goal, ran forward and fed it in for Louise Ní Muircheartaigh, who fisted it to the net to leave Lerry four points up at halftime.

In the second half the sides traded scores with Kelly Ann Hogan finishing with five points for the day.

However, it was Kerry's super sub Danielle O' Leary who made the difference. With just a goal between the sides in the last couple of minutes, O'Leary was introduced and made an immediate difference.

She received the ball on the hour mark, swiveled inside the box, turned and finished low to the net.

That score made it 2.08 to 0.8 and the final whistle sounded shortly after.
