Haul of Gold medals for Waterford athletes at Duathlon World Championships in Romania

Waterford athletes Diane Behan and Siobhan Kennedy have won three gold medals between them at the Duathlon World Championships in Romania this weekend.

There were two different distances: the Standard duathlon which comprises a 10k run, 40k cycle and 5k run, and the Sprint distance, which was half that.

Siobhán Kennedy took part in the Standard event on the Friday, followed by the Sprint event on Saturday, and took Gold in her age category (60 to 64) for both events.

Meanwhile Diane Behan was the overall winner by 12 seconds in the Standard Distance event for her age category, (50 to 54 year olds).

Speaking to Déise Today, Siobhán Kennedy told Damien Tiernan, that she went to the event expecting to only run won race, so the second Gold was "the icing on the cake." More here.
